Huarache Pizza

Huaraches are thick, oblong-shaped corn tortillas that have tasty toppings and served open-face style. So it made perfect sense to make a pizza with them, gluten free of course! This is a simple Margarita recipe using Ranchero Sauce, Mexican oregano and Chihuahua cheese BUT you could top yours with anything you like, we have seen a range of huarache toppings from huge mushrooms to a whole rib-eye steak!


Preheat the grill.

  1. Have your huarache ready face side up (the face is the side with the edge or lip, the bottom side is flatter.)
  2. Put a frying pan over medium-high heat, add the oil and when hot place the huarache face side down.
  3. Cook for 15 to 30 secs, the idea is to make a seal, so the sauce does not make the huarache soggy.
  4. Turn the huarache over so the bottom can become crisp.  
  5. While still in the pan add the Ranchero Sauce spreading to the edges, leaving about a 1 cm rim.
  6. Place your cheese on top and sprinkle with Mexican Oregano. 
  7. When the edges are starting to go golden and the bottom is crispy, transfer the frying pan so that it is under the grill.
  8. Grill until the cheese has melted and it looks and smells tasty. 
  9. Remove and serve inmediatamente! 

Serve with Salsa Macha on the side for people to add al gusto. Que Rico!
