Tequila Sunrise




too easy!

Apparently, the first Tequila Sunrise was made in the '20s at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel and didn't contain orange juice, but was a mix of tequila, creme de cassis and soda water. It wasn't until the '70s that it was reinvented in Sausalito. It became a favourite of the Rolling Stones and even the Eagles named a song after it. Our recipe is the '70s version. If you are having it as a morning drink, you can cut the tequila in half, so you keep on the straight and narrow...or not! Choose a blanco or a light reposado tequila, we like one of the still strength tequilas for this recipe, like Arette Fuerte or Tapatío Blanco 110. We have subbed the grenadine for Flor de Jamaica Syrup!


Fill a tall glass with ice, add the tequila and orange juice, stir with a spoon to mix. Then add the Flor de Jamaica Syrup, do not stir! It will slowly sink to the bottom, giving you the sunrise effect. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or orange wheel if desired.
