Tequila Sunrise

Serves

Difficulty

too easy!

Apparently the first Tequila Sunrise was made in the '20s at the Arizona Baltimore Hotel and didn't contain orange juice, but was a mix of tequila, creme de cassis and soda water. It wasn't until the '70s that it was reinvented in Sausalito. It became a favourite of the Rolling Stones and even the Eagles named a song after it. Our recipe is the '70s version. If you are having it as a morning drink, you can cut the tequila in half, so you keep on the straight and narrow...or not!

Method

Fill a tall glass with ice, add the tequila and orange juice, stir with a spoon to mix. Then add the grenadine, do not stir! It will slowly sink to the bottom, giving you the sunrise effect. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or orange wheel if desired.
