Description

From our good friends Joy and Michael Michaud at Sea Spring Seeds, the fresh chilli experts.

Capsicum chinense

A combination of beauty and the beast, Orange Habanero is a deliciously flavoured and brutishly hot variety that’s graced by good looks. The thin-fleshed fruit measure about 3 x 5cm and changes from green to a stunning salmon-orange as they ripen.

The heat and flavour of Orange Habanero make amazing salsas, full of flavour and powerful heat that some how doesn't linger long and leaves you panting for more. Fresh fruit can also be used charred to make top-notch chilli sauces, pickles, mayo and salsas. Try one in a jar of pink pickled onions.

The bushy, medium-sized plants are highly productive and flourish in pots from 5 to 10 litres in size. The main stems need to be supported, otherwise, they will flop over.

Heat level: extremely hot (approx. 250,000 SHU)

Approximate number of seeds per pack: 20

Pink Pickled Onions

Pink pickled onions are from the Yucatan, where they put them on dishes such as puerco pibil and panuchos. The flavour is as perky as the colour with a pleasing heat. Using a habanero would be more traditional but a Scotch bonnet will work too.
