Felipe Camarena, maestro tequilero at distillery El Pandillo, comes from a family of distillers. His brother Carlos produces Ocho and his grandfather founded Tapatio. Felipe's dedication to the craft is second to none, he is highly inventive having built his own equipment to his exacting standards, 'Igor' the shredder, 'Felipenstien' the crusher and his two-storey oven which steams his agaves evenly. He is dedicated to being as earth-friendly as possible, harvesting rainwater, planting for biodiversity and neutralizing his tequila vinazas before using it as fertilizer. The source of water for his tequilas is important, he demonstrates through his brands the unique flavour profiles that each water—and its minerals - gives to tequila.

Remy Newland: 'Vivacious nose. Ripe full agave notes with floral undertones, spices, ripe peaches, and a touch of pungency. Minerals with a touch of edginess. Flavour: Pepper heat, tons of agave, fruit, vanilla, butterscotch and almond cream. A cider sweetness and light salinity. Finish lingers. I could drink this all night. Palate: cooked agave shines through, vanilla, sweet spice, creamy mouthfeel, minerals, peppery heat, salinity, buttery finish that ends long and spicy

Interesting fact: although Felipe has 3 sources of water at his distillery: spring, rain and deep-well, Terralta is made only with deep-well water, that and the iron-rich ground in which the agaves are grown, produce a tequila that is high in minerality with earthy notes.
