Don Fulano Tequila 70cl - Extra Añejo Imperial 5 Year

Product information

Description

Access to fully mature agaves is what makes the entire Don Fulano lineup so special. With the mature agave shortage dragging on longer than anticipated, this brand holds an advantage because they have its own agave plantation and can control its own reserves.

Don Fulano feels that American oak casks can easily overwhelm the subtle flavors of the agave, and therefore the Don Fulano producers choose instead to age their product in former wine European oak barrels, primarily those which held wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, and the Loire Valley in France, as well as others from Spain and Eastern Europe.

After the aging process, each batch is blended from carefully selected barrels by the master of the cellar, and then aged for between five years and up to 12 and finished in Oloroso sherry casks before being bottled without any additives.

A wonderfully smooth and rich Extra Añejo with a great combination of elegance and power. Although it has been aged for so long, the agave flavours still shine through. Cool Inca-esque ceramic bottle.

Comment: Rich and decadent, but still packed with agave spice, sweetness and complexity.

Interesting fact: The mission at Don Fulano has always been to produce exceptional tequila. They employ a truly unique dual distillation process; an old-style double column still and also a traditional copper pot still, using heat to eliminate any unwanted alcohols. The two distillates are then blended. Anywhere between 12-16% of the distillate comes from the column still, this process is used exclusively by Don Fulano and allows them to consistently create tequilas of the highest quality.

Region: agaves are from Los Altos, grown by the Fonseca family who supplies many of the tequila producers throughout the highlands - they grow and harvest only premium blue agave.

    Age of agave when harvested:

    Water Source: deep well water

    Oven type: autoclave (low pressure)

Extraction method: screw mill, roller mill

Fermentation: stainless steel tanks, open-air fermentation, fermentation without fibres

Still type: copper pot and column, double-distilled

Ageing: French Oak barrels, used barrels, sherry casks, wine casks, Hungarian oak barrels
